This tool reads the text from a scanned receipt or bill and puts it into an editable Word document, so you can copy amounts and details into your expense report or spreadsheet.

The OCR tool accepts PDF files only. If your receipt is a photo (JPG or PNG), first convert it with the JPG to PDF tool, then upload the PDF here. The first 2 pages of each file are processed, and small or faded print can reduce accuracy, so check the numbers.

How to use this tool

  1. If your receipt is a photo, convert it to PDF with JPG to PDF.
  2. Upload the PDF and choose the language of the receipt.
  3. Press Convert & download and check the text in Word.

Frequently asked questions

Can I upload a photo of the receipt directly?

No. The OCR tool only accepts PDF files. Use JPG to PDF to turn the photo into a PDF first.

What do I get back?

An editable Word (.docx) document with the recognised text, not a plain text file.

How can I improve accuracy?

Photograph the receipt flat, in good light, with the text sharp and filling most of the frame.

Your files. Uploaded files are processed in server memory to produce your result and are not saved, analysed or shared.

Scan to Word (OCR). The first pages of your file are sent as images to Google Cloud Vision to recognise text.

Logs. Our host (Google Cloud) keeps standard request logs such as IP address, time and URL for security and operations. We don't require an account.

Ads & Cookies. We use Google AdSense to fund this free service. Google uses cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this or other websites. You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings.
